The School Based Health Service is a result of a Counties Manukau
District Health Board initiative in partnership with the Auckland School Nurses
Group.
The system and compendium is designed to be used by a Registered Health Practitioner
who has completed Youth Health Training (Database & HEADSS training is essential).

The Journey
In 2002 Healthy Community Schools began as part of the Ministry of Education
AIMHI project.
Registered Nurses, and in some schools Enrolled Nurses in conjunction with RNs,
were funded to provide a comprehensive assessment to all Year 9 students to
identify unrecognised health concerns as well as potential risk behaviours that
could impact on the students' well being. In conjunction with School Counsellors
and Social Workers and other community Primary Health Care Providers students
needs are followed up and case managed.
Gilli Sinclair, Youth Health Funder for CMDHB, supported the AIMHI Community
Schools Concept to enable it to grow to enhance the practice of all School
Nurses that work in the CMDHB.
In 2005/2006 Phillipa Bennetts, Karlynne Earp and Diana Verrall from the ASNG,
worked collaboratively with those previously acknowledged to develop this
compendium as a resource for Registered Nurses working in School Based Health
Services. The inspiration and passion of all involved has resulted in this
collection of resources that we hope will ensureā¦ |
